Mark Zuckerberg on the social network announces the first flight of the solar drone “Aquila” of Facebook. The drone flew over the skies of England but the first real test will be carried out this summer. It seems to have abilities unexplored.
It has the wingspan of a Boeing 737 (35.8 meters) but it weighs like a car and it is able to remain airborne for months 18 thousand meters high, where there are no turbulence, to connect to the Internet people in remote communities in the world. The drones have a function of mobile antennas that will transmit to the ground the signal received from satellites, with Free-space optical (FSO) laser technology.
The success of the first test looks promising, but you have to wait a few years before the drones solar are able to bring the network to 10% of the world population living in remote areas and where currently there is the lack of internet infrastructures.
Facebook has been able to project themselves into the market of drones through the acquisition (in 2014) of Ascenta, a company that works on this type of devices specifically in the sector of the energy solar feeding. But for the great project of Zuckerberg it is not enough: according to some specialized portals, in fact, the young leader of computer science would be looking for partners to implement the initiative.
Both Facebook and Google are working hard to make the Internet accessible to all, with the final aim to increase their number of fixed users and grow your business.

Who knows if this is all just a dream or will become reality!
